Your beliefs about money are deeply entrenched and continue to bring about the results you experience in life. If you have experienced a lot of lack and scarcity, for example, you’ll probably have some deep-routed beliefs around the topic. Perhaps you experienced poverty growing up, and spent a lot of time with someone who had a scarcity mindset. Here’s a few limiting beliefs around money which can easily be picked up when you’re too young to actively rebuke ideas:
- You have to work hard to get money
- Money doesn’t grow on trees
- The rich are greedy
- Life is a struggle
- You’ll never be rich
- I’m unworthy
- I’m never enough
- You’re never enough
- It’s nobler to be poor
Beliefs like these are often self perpetuating. Even if you want the best for yourself, if you don’t expect it, you’ll sabotage your best efforts to achieve it.

Beliefs About Money – How To Turn Old Negative Beliefs Around
The first step is to become conscious of the beliefs which hold you in poverty. What do you tell yourself repeatedly on the subject of money, or self worth? When messages did you receive as a child in regards to money and wealth or poverty?
Start noticing the things you say to yourself and others on this topic. Are they often framed in the negative? “I will never”, “I can’t”, “I’m not good enough” and similar beliefs will keep you stuck in the same pattern forever!
To change your circumstances, you must dig into your subconscious belief patterns which are creating your life. If you always expect to “just get by” that is what you will create. Spend some time meditating on this and take a notebook with you. Whenever you catch yourself saying something negative about money, take notice. This is a huge opportunity to change your life by unpicking these saboteurs of your wealth.
Choose A New Mantra To Replace The Old
Your old belief systems become mantras which you repeat in your head over and over again! “I’m not good enough”, “I don’t care about money”, “It’s nobler being poor”, “As long as I just get by” and on and on they go. These are your programs which you have picked up in your life, often from childhood parental messages.
Notice them, and then do the opposite – repeat a new more empowering mantra such as:
- Money comes easily and frequently
- I choose to be rich/wealthy
- I am worthy of abundance in all areas of my life
- I get paid to be me
- I love myself and I approve of myself
Often self doubt and self criticism play a part in our downplaying our part in our life. Feelings of unworthiness or fear of the unknown can undermine our confidence in ourselves and wreck havoc in our lives. It can be a challenge repeating mantras you don’t initially believe, especially when it comes to money. But would you rather live the rest of your life in poverty?
Repeat Your Mantra Every Day
Remember you’ve been repeating the old mantras probably for decades. That’s why your life is like it is! So give it some time and make a habit out of noticing when you are doing yourself down. Replace old, negative mental patterns with new, positive ones like those above.
It can take some time to turn your life around. But stick with it and make these mantras part of your daily ritual. They work when you continue with them for long enough.
